I started typing this list out at 4:30 this afternoon. I did take a break for dinner, but I probably spent a good four hours on this. Rebecca requests graphs - I'll probably get those done on Sunday or Monday - this computer has already attempted to thwart me three separate times. Plus, my shoulders are REALLY sore. (Also, it appears that the list was too large for one post, which is a first for me.)

Wow.
What do the asterix's mean? The list is very impressive - though I'm more impressed that your grandmother kept the lists, and for so long!!! I'm a list maker, I admire her dedication. And yours, for typing them out!

Re: Wow.
I'm pretty sure that those are books that she especially enjoyed. There are a couple of numbers as well, but I think those were to note that the book was one of a series.

Yeah, I was amazed by how many books there were, and that she had kept all those lists for... 38 years.

Holy Smokes!! That is a lot of book action. :-x

This list is incredible! Stunning. I started in 2007 and I'm determined to keep a reading list for the rest of my life! Good taste in books as well, though a lot of the books I haven't heard of!

Yeah, I hadn't heard of a lot of them, either. The funny thing is, when I look them up now, I have clear memories of seeing some of them in her apartment. I've been purposefully reading a lot of books from her list since I got it - I was really close to my grandmother, and it's sort of my way of continuing to get recommendations from her.

Stumbled in here through a comment you left on another journal but this...is simply amazing. I haven't had a time to look through it closely but...what a wonderful find!

Makes me determined to keep up my own reading lists even though I've only been keeping track since 2007.
Little Miss Can't Be Wrong[info]margotheangel on October 26th, 2009 08:35 pm (UTC)
Thanks! I was always a reader but got really obsessed since finding my grandmother's lists. (I also charted her books read here, which is nerdy, but so cool.) I need more readers on my friends list (since one of my RL friends recently told me that he just skipped my reading entries, and I'm guessing others do it and just don't admit it). You seem to post about books pretty often - would you like to be my friend?
Amy: Johnny[info]amygirl on October 26th, 2009 08:44 pm (UTC)
Of course! But my journal is mostly fandom related so be warned I chatter a lot about fandom, hot guys and slash. If that stuff doesn't bother you then I'd love to!

It'll be nice to have someone actually interested in my Book of the Moment post even though I don't really use that to discuss the book per-say I wouldn't mind it if I did though I'm not really intellectual about these sorts of things. Mostly it's sort of a Tree Pretty, Fire Bad way of thinking... ;-)
Little Miss Can't Be Wrong[info]margotheangel on October 26th, 2009 08:49 pm (UTC)
Oh, that's all right. I'm not really involved in fandom, but my sister is, so that's basically all I read about in her journal, too. :)

My reviews often aren't great, either. A book often makes me think seriously about things, but the thoughts don't seem to translate well when I sit down to type them out. I'm making an effort to write better reviews, but we'll see if that works or not.
